February 8, 9 & 10, 2013 2013 Maui Painting Workshop The Dynamics of Light-Filled Landscape Painting Learn how to fine-tune your powers of observation and develop your own artistic style based on an understanding of fundamental principles. This workshop will cover the basic principles of light, how to determine the color of light, and how to create the movement of light on the canvas. We will cover color mixing, how to apply color and value to light relationships, and how to develop form and perspective in the landscape through the use of light and color. Each student learns to fine-tune their powers of observation and develops their own artistic style based on an understanding of fundamental principles. Many of us perceive clouds as difficult. They are always changing. How do I learn to interpret what I see? How do I portray these elements in a realistic way? How can I learn to paint what I observe in nature? In this workshop, students will study the various kinds of clouds, and how the dynamics of value, color, temperature and chroma affect the atmosphere. Aerial perspective, atmospheric conditions, separation of plane as well as the gradations in sunrise/sunset, dawn/dusk, full sun and moonlight will be covered. The Dynamics of Light-Filled Landscape Painting

Capturing the beauty of a landscape lies primarily in the ability to portray the light relationships one sees. This course will cover the basic principles of light, how to determine the color of light, and how to create the movement of light on the canvas using analogous and split complement colors to illustrate color, value and light relationships.

Course emphasis is on how to develop form and perspective in the landscape through the use of light and color, fine tuning one's visual observation skills and using the fundamental components of composition, developing depth, aerial perspective, light and shade, and form in the landscape.

We will paint en plein air at a different location on Maui each day. 9am-4pm.

Enrollment limited to 10 participants.
