Paint in charming and picturesque coastal Carmel this spring. Workshop will cover the same format as the February Maui workshop with an emphasis on the dynamics and fundamentals of landscape painting.
Learn the dynamics of cloud formations, and how to use depth and perspective to create light-filled dramatic skies. This will be a combination studio as well as plein air class.
Capturing the beauty of a landscape lies primarily in the ability to portray the light relationships one sees. Each student learns to fine tune their powers of observation and develops their own artistic style based on an understanding of fundamental principles. This course will cover the basic principles of light, how to determine the color of light, and how to create the movement of light on the canvas. We will begin with an introduction to color mixing, how to apply color and value to light relationships, and how to develop form and perspective in the landscape through the use of light and color. The components of composition, developing depth, aerial perspective, light and shade, and form in the landscape will also be covered as well as discussions of tools and trade.
This series of workshops allows students to choose between plein
air painting at some of Maui's most beautiful spots, or a day in
the artist's studio. Whether you are a budding artist still learning
the basics, or an advanced painter this is a unique opportunity

The Dynamics of Light-Filled Landscape
Painting
Capturing
the beauty of a landscape lies primarily in the ability to portray the
light relationships one sees. This course will cover the basic principles
of light, how to determine the color of light, and how to create the movement
of light on the canvas using analogous and split complement colors to
illustrate color, value and light relationships.
Course emphasis is on how to develop form and perspective in the landscape through the use of light and color, fine tuning one's visual observation skills and using the fundamental components of composition, developing depth, aerial perspective, light and shade, and form in the landscape.
We will paint en plein air at a different location on Maui each day. 9am-4pm.
Enrollment limited to 10 participants.
